Andy Meharg, një profesor në Universitetin Queens në Belfast, ka provuar tri metoda të ndryshme të gatimit të orizit. Së pari, ai gatoi orizin duke përdorur metodën tradicionale ku një gotë oriz përzihet me dy gota ujë, një metodë nga e cila orizi mbetej i mbushur plot me arsenik.
Në metodën e dytë, ai përdori pesë gota ujë për 1 gotë orizi. Kjo mënyrë gatimi bëri që orizi të humbte gati gjysmën e arsenikut në oriz, ndërsa sipas metodës së tretë Meharg la orizin në ujë gjatë gjithë natës, përpara se të gatuante atë.
